Scripture

Psalm 81-7 "When you were in trouble, you called, and I saved you. I answered you with thunder."

Message

Sometimes the only time a child will listen is when we raise our voice. God knows this and He does the same for us, His children. At first He might whisper when He sees the wrong we do, like a gentle rain, trying to get our attention. But many times a whisper goes unheard. Then God, trying harder, begins to shout. He calls out our name, He tugs on our sleeve, and finally He touches our heart. Then the thunder roars. But as a result of our sin our future has already been determined. And with sin comes the discipline.

For those whose troublesome-lifestyle has put them behind bars, it is a sad day indeed. You are handcuffed and taken from your home, your family and your friends. You are stuck in a small cement room the size of a closet where you will call home for the next several days, months, or years, depending on the crime. Did you think otherwise? Did you think it would be okay to do what you did and not be punished? God tried to get your attention, but like a child you ignored Him.

If you cry out now, God will hear you. But He can not release you. He will forgive you if you ask Him. But He will not let you out. Not yet. Not until it is time. He will never leave you because He loves you too much. He is there with you now to see you safely through your journey. His presence is in every corner of your gloomy abode. Close your eyes. Can you see Him? Can you feel Him? And if and when you have paid your dues and you are released, do not take back the promise of love and obedience that you made to Him. Do not let them be temporary words of regret just to get you out. Follow Him. He is always there for you!

Prayer

Dear Lord, Thank you for always being with me no matter where I am. Thank you too for forgiving me of my foolish ways and for not hearing you when you called out to me. Because of the harm I have done, I deserve so much more than prison, but I thank you that it was all I received. I am so very grateful for your mercy and your grace. I need you in my life always, Father. Help me to stay clean and in bounds from the ways of the secular world. Lead me away from temptation and deliver me from evil. Forgive me of my sins, today and all my tomorrows. In His blessed name, I pray. Amen.
