Anger (Wasted Energy?)
Scripture
Proverbs
15:1 "A
gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words cause quarrels."
Proverbs
29:11 "A
rebel shouts in anger; a wise man holds his temper in and
cools it."
Matthew
5:22 "If
you are only angry, even in your own home, you are in danger
of judgment! If you call your friend
an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court.
And if you curse him, you're in danger of the fires of hell."
Message
What a horrible feeling it is to be angry, especially when
it is directed towards those we love. How can we do that? How
can we lose our tempers so often and say such mean and hurtful
things? Don't we realize the damage it does? Don't we care?
How sad is it when we lose our self-control, lashing out at
those most precious to us? Why do we continually give into
our flesh? Why? Because we live in a world that is far from
perfect. We are tempted every day to sin in some form or another.
And because we are imperfect human beings, we struggle with
everything that isn't perfect. God's world is perfect, but
we aren't there yet.
When
evil thoughts reach your heart and you lose all your senses,
do not give
up. Do not let those thoughts steal what
you treasure most. Ask God to save you! Tell Satan, "The
Lord rebuke you!" Soon you will feel the anger subside
and God will be right beside you listening to your prayer.
Prayer
Dear Lord, What would I ever do without you? You are always
there when I call. You always know when to rescue me from the
evils of the world. Sometimes things are said or done that
I react to in a very harmful and negative way. Help me to turn
the other cheek. I want to live in your perfect world someday,
Father, where there is no anger or regret. But until that day,
help me get through the time I have left here and let me do
it with a kind and caring heart. Help me to forgive those who
wrong me, and forgive all the wrongs I inflict onto others.
Give me the courage, Lord to take my stand in this world and
defeat Satan by speaking Your Word. In Jesus' name, I pray.
Amen.
